Brief Job Description:

The Department of Nutrition in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track clinical faculty position with an expected start date of January 2025. Accredited dietetics programs are fundamental to the department as we prepare future registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) for high-level, evidence-based practice that effectively addresses health concerns of the U.S. population. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent teaching potential in the clinical setting as well as the classroom, particularly in the areas of evidence-based medical nutrition therapy and motivational interviewing. Experience or aptitude in collaborating with a healthcare team in program development, evaluation, and improvement is preferred. Prior experience with ACEND accreditation is also preferred. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have a strong ability to contribute and thrive as part of an innovative, forward-thinking faculty team with student success as the primary focus.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Teaching (70%): Direct student learning in assigned clinical sites, teach campus-based undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses as assigned, and collaborate with the GP director and other members of the clinical faculty to optimize the dietetics curriculum and course structure.
  • DPD Director and clinic liaison (20%): Manage all aspects of the DPD including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in coordination with the GP. Ensure and maintain compliance of the DPD Program with the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) standards. As clinic liaison, coordinate with Cherokee Health Systems personnel to optimally integrate training of GP students within clinic programming across sites for mutual benefit.
  • Service (10%): Serve on Department, College and University Committees depending upon experience, interest, and program needs. Participate in departmental faculty meetings, community and professional activities as appropriate.

The candidate will have the interest and ability to take a lead role in developing an ACEND-accredited Advanced Practice Doctorate (APD) program for practicing RDNs at the University of Tennessee. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have a strong ability to contribute and thrive as part of an innovative, forward-thinking faculty team with student success as the primary focus.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Teaching (40%): Teach campus-based and clinic-based undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses as assigned, collaborate with the GP and DPD director and other members of the clinical faculty to optimize the overall dietetics curriculum, course structure, and teaching.
  • Administration/Research (50%): Take a lead role in developing a proposal, including curriculum, coursework, advanced practice residency structure, and applied research framework for an ACEND-accredited Advanced Practice Doctorate (ABD) program with expectations to assume the program director role if proposal accepted. Coordinate planning closely with the GP and DPD directors and the departmental Graduate Committee.
  • Service (10%): Serve on Department, College and University Committees depending upon experience, interest, and program needs. Participate in departmental faculty meetings, community and professional activities as appropriate.

    7. Plans, directs, arranges, and evaluates educational programs for professionals, paraprofessionals, volunteers, peer counselors, clients, and the public.
    8. Speaks on nutrition and health through group programs, school programs, and local newspapers, radio and television stations.
    9. Selects and/or develops, evaluates, and revises nutrition education materials for use by the Health Department; utilizes available nutrition curriculum for training health and human service professionals, teachers, and students.
