DESCRIPTION:Learning Objectives \nFoods (Diet) Recommendations for Thyroid and Autoimmune Conditions \n1.Compare diet recommendations in the two books: The Thyroid Connection by Amy Myers\, M.D. (2016) and The Thyroid Cure: The Functional Mind-Body Approach to Reversing your Autoimmune Condition by Michelle Corey Rodale Press (2016) \n2.Review The Thyroid Cure Cookbook-Restore Your Body to Complete Health (2016) \n\nMorning Journal Club – Study Group \nKAND Journal Club has been in existence for over 40 years\, meeting in members’ homes once a month for 2 hours each from October to May\, except December.  In May\, we decide on topics for the next year and apply for prior approval over the summer.  Participants search for articles on the topic and everyone adds to the discussion.  We use JADA articles\, Mayo Clinic Proceedings\, Nutrition Newsletters (e.g. Tufts)\, NY Times Science Section and ADA information\, plus the internet. \nTopics have included Metabolic Syndrome\, Diabetes—all aspects\, Food Safety\, Cancer Prevention\, Nutrition Guidelines\, Eating Disorders\, Childhood Obesity\, etc. \nChairman: Joan Dow Scott\, M.S.\, LPN \nAttendance & RSVP: 2 CEU’s available per session. All registered dietitians are welcome to participate. SUMMARY:Local Policy in Action & KAND 2017-2018 Awards Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce that Stephanie Welch\, registered dietitian and Knoxville City Council member\, will be speaking at the March KAND meeting. She will be pulling from her extensive experience in public health and community involvement to speak about about how local policy impacts nutrition and public health in our area. \nThe second half of this meeting will be the 2017-2018 KAND Awards Ceremony. The presentation portion of the meeting will end at 3:50 pm. Guests are welcome to attend the full meeting or arrive at 3:50 pm to attend the Awards Ceremony. We will have delicious finger foods and welcome non-KAND members to attend to celebrate the achievements of the awardees. \nEast Tennessee Children’s Hospital \nKoppel Plaza\nSchmid AB Classroom (Second Floor)\nParking will be validated for Garage C \n\n\n\n
