DESCRIPTION:Please join us on February 3rd as Registered Dietitian Rebecca Ellison shares her experiences with entrepreneurship. Rebecca received her Master of Science in Public Health Nutrition and Master of Public Health from the University of Tennessee. Her graduate-level training had a specialized focus in infant-feeding and maternal and child health and that’s where she fell in love with feeding babies.  \n  \nIn her professional career\, Rebecca has experience counseling families in the areas of nutrition and breastfeeding. She also had the privilege of promoting successful breastfeeding at the community level through health policy and program planning\, implementation and evaluation. In this role Rebecca carried out a variety of community-level activities including planning continuing lactation education seminars for medical professionals\, educating local childcare facilities on the topic of infant feeding\, partnering with local hospital administration and employers to improve breastfeeding related policies and practices\, and designing lactation rooms throughout Knox County.  \n  \nCurrently\, Rebecca is the owner/founder of The Baby Nutritionist\, LLC. DESCRIPTION:In honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month\, Lisa Kocak from the Tennessee Department of Health will be speaking on Diabetes Prevention and Awareness in the Community. \nLisa has a B.S. in Health Education from the State University of New York\, College at Cortland and her Masters of Arts and Social Sciences from the State University of New York\, College at Binghamton.  She started her career as a Certified Medical Assistant in the medical field and went on to pursue her current career in public health.  She has worked at the local public health level and transitioned into the state level of public health.  She worked as a Public Health Educator and Public Information Officer at the Tioga County Health Department in Owego\, New York and a Health Program Specialist at Metro Public Health Department in Nashville.  Lisa is currently a Program Director at the Tennessee Department of Health in the Chronic Disease division.  Kocak also teaches Medical Assisting courses at South College in Tennessee. \n

DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we host Madden Wilson\, RD\, LD\, CNSC on Thursday\, February 25\, from 3:00-4:00p EST \nBio: Madden Wilson is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Nutrition Support Clinician at GI For Kids.  She initially became interested in nutrition support while working as an inpatient clinical dietitian at an acute-care hospital.  For the past 2 years\, however\, Madden has been working as an outpatient RD in a pediatric setting.  She primarily works with GI patients\, but also sees children and young adults with a variety of nutrition concerns. DESCRIPTION:Morning Journal Club – Study Group \nKAND Journal Club has been in existence for over 40 years\, meeting in members’ homes once a month for 2 hours each from October to May\, except December.  In May\, we decide on topics for the next year and apply for prior approval over the summer.  Participants search for articles on the topic and everyone adds to the discussion.  We use JADA articles\, Mayo Clinic Proceedings\, Nutrition Newsletters (e.g. Tufts)\, NY Times Science Section and ADA information\, plus the internet. \nTopics have included Metabolic Syndrome\, Diabetes—all aspects\, Food Safety\, Cancer Prevention\, Nutrition Guidelines\, Eating Disorders\, Childhood Obesity\, etc. \nChairman: Carolyn Perry-Burst\, MS\, RD\, LDN \nAttendance & RSVP: 2 CEU’s available per session.
