Objectives

  1. To describe the Academy/ASPEN clinical characteristics and guidelines for diagnosing malnutrition.
  2. To explain the Nutrition-focused physical exam (NFPE) and why it is a necessary component to diagnosing malnutrition with the Academy/ASPEN clinical characteristics.
  3. To describe the importance of identifying and properly diagnosing patients in the acute care hospital (nutritional interventions, discharge planning, financial impact).
  4. To explain how the future of dietetics could be impacted with the NFPE as a tool in the dietitian’s pocket.
